Our History

2009

Deuce’s 2nd original, Treeligion, premiered at The South of Broadway Theatre in Oct. 2009.

In the summer os 2009 Deuce presented the Lowcountry’s 1st 24 Hour Play Festival. 

The Emperor is Naked? returned for a successful run in the 2009 Piccolo Spoleto Festival, presented by PURE Theatre.In 2009, Deuce produced a cabaret, Broadway B*tches at our new home, the South of Broadway Theatre in the historic Park Circle area of North Charleston.  The cabaret was also featured in the North Charleston Arts Festival.   


2008

Deuce’s production of The Emperor is Naked? opened in North Charleston in October of 2008.

2006

In 2006 the company expanded to an ensemble of 10 actors who met for weekly workshops that culminated in a staged reading of a Deuce Theatre original production, The Emperor is Naked?.  The reading was staged in October 2006 at the Eatontown Playhouse in Eatontown, NJ.  In late 2007, the Co-Founding Artistic Directors, Andrea Catangay and Michael Catangay relocated to the Charleston, SC area with the intention of continuing Deuce Theatre’s mission here in 2008. 


2005

Deuce Theatre was founded in 2005 in New Jersey by Andrea Catangay and Michael Catangay.  The company’s first production, Square One by Steve Tesich was produced in April 2005 at The Phoenix Studio Theatre in Red Bank, NJ.

Michael Catangay

Michael has 14 years professional acting experience in theatre, film, commercials and voiceovers.  His experience includes working with youth in educational theatre at the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami. He is SAG eligible.  He has performed in several off-off Broadway Productions, as well as regional stages in Atlanta and Miami. He starred in the award winning short film, The Milliner shot on location in NYC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Performance and a BS in Advertising and minor in Marketing from the University of Miami.


Andrea Studley

Andrea is member of the Actor's Equity Association and has acted professionally for over 10 years. She performed leading roles under the direction Joseph Chakin, Kenny Leon and David Bell, a world premiere and a musical in the Olympic Arts Fesitval for which she also appears on the cast recording. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre from the University of Miami and from the professional acting internship at the Alliance Theatre. She has teaches drama and voice and holds a teaching artist certificate from the Actor’s Work Program.
